About the Artist
The naïve forms that populate Seattle area artist Karen Jimenez's drawings employ a space between abstraction and representation. She describes her work as an answer to the space between sensation and memory. The forms may seem abstract, but as your eye travels across the drawing a narrative begins to suggest itself within the composition. Jimenez’s visual language embraces and magnifies this ambiguity.
Working in watercolor, graphite pencil, and other drawing medium, Jimenez employs a loose and repetitive style of mark-making. Her style of working draws attention to the mark-making and process of creation. The interplay between positive and negative space through color as well as tactile sense of surface pulls the viewer towards the drawings.
Jimenez received her BA in Graphic Design and Illustration from Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA. She has participated in local group shows and solo presentations.
