About the work of Karen Jimenez: "My watercolor paintings explore the pursuit of happiness. I do this by venerating subjects that are pleasing to me. However obscure a work is in its meaning, the viewer is being asked to appraise its ability to reflect happiness. I’m particularly drawn to old tapestries and illuminated manuscripts as ways of summarizing symbols to assert status and suggest the achievement of happiness.
